Mid-America Motorplex Race Review
June 30 - July 2, 2006
Team Simone Racing has just returned from Mid-America Motorplex, in which attended the 4th round of the TrackAddix GP Championships. The weekend started with Practice on Friday. The turn out for the weekend was a little on the light side, but there were some faster guys to play with, just not very large grids.
The first race of the weekend was GTU. This Race would be the first win TSR would achieve as an Expert. Running a consistent 1:35's we not only were running 2 seconds faster than our last time here, we were doing it on our Stock "B" bike. An Epic battle between us an Jeff Purke would last all the way to the checkered flag, with the margin if victory being less than one second. It was an awesome race.
Saturday morning would bring us showers but luckily they would pass before racing action would start. First Race of the day was MWSS and we were grid on the 3rd row. Having to make up time, we quickly put down 2 riders on the opening lap. Entering turn #1 we were involved in an on-track incident with another rider and wrecked. Both riders were physically ok, but we had some minor repairs we had to do to our bike to get us back in the racing action. Our Graves Exhaust was folded in half, but the TSR Team is comprised of amazing people, and Ron was able to pound that can out for me and get me back on the track. It took most of the day to get the feel and confidence back in the bike, but we were in store for the most fun we had all season.
It took 4 events, but we were finally able to convince our Nemesis Mr. Dan Blake to show up at an Event and race with us. Unlimited GP would be that race. 10 laps of pure fun and excitement. Since I was injured and on a Broken Bike, Dan's out dated equipment just might have a chance. Proving once again Dan is Mr. Drag King he destroyed me off the start. I wasn't far off from him thou. For the next 9 laps we would pass and re-pass each other, on the brakes, in the turns, anywhere we could. On the last lap Dan and I had the drag race of a lifetime to the finish line. We were helmet to helmet, bar to bar, wheel to wheel. We would win by a margin of 0.009 Seconds at the line. We were so close Dan could have turned off the kill switch on my bike and had a sure win!
Sunday would be the final day of racing for us. MWSS we would finish in 6th place and MWSB would be 5th place. Unlimited GP would be our last race and after a nasty start we would get stuck behind a much slower rider who we simply couldn't pass until about the 3rd lap. We would overtake and then get passed only by motor on the straight, to be held up again in the infield. Once we did get past this rider we were so far off the lead group, we couldn't do anything more than a 9th place finish.
Overall it was an Excellent weekend for TSR. Other than the wreck we had no Mechanical Issues and the "B" bike was very fast considering its stock condition. TSR would like to once again thank our Entire Team for their help and support and look forward to more racing action at Barber Next Month...
